About Us:

African Queer Youth Initiative (AQYI) is made up of a group of motivated, dedicated, and resourceful young people across Africa. From southern to northern Africa, eastern to western Africa, including the African Islands, all working together towards the same goal to amplify the voices of LGBT+ youths in Africa. 

AQYI currently seeks a Research and Documentation Officer who will coordinate and lead on research projects for the AQYI. The successful officer will also be expected to lead on documentation within the organization and contribute to writing and publication. This includes providing research input required to implement, develop, and evaluate AQYI’s programs. AQYI seeks a dynamic individual who is obsessed with collecting, synthesizing, and interpreting data, and documenting findings in easy-to-understand reports. To succeed in this role, the officer will need to have an in-depth understanding of LGBT+ issues in Africa and be committed to the goals and objectives of the AQYI. This is a full-time remote position, and the officer can work from anywhere in Africa with reliable internet connection. 

Job Description:

Lead and provide technical support to the AQYI in the design and implementation of research activities.
Lead and support the AQYI in analyzing, synthesizing, and presenting findings from research data.
Lead and support in the documentation of research findings through different communication channels like the web, social media, articles, and reports.
Design, write, and edit reports for internal and external audiences.
Lead in community engagement and documenting findings and contacts within the continent and globally.
Lead in the promotion and fostering of result documentation, inter-team learning activities and sharing, and use of lessons learned and best practices to create positive results.

Required Experience and Qualifications: 

Degree in public health, communications, public relations, public policy, international relations or any relevant area.
Three to five years of relevant experience.
Fluency in French and English (reading, writing and speaking); experience with translation of technical documents.
At least three-years of demonstrated work experience in research related positions or projects and/or programs in Africa.
Ability to think creatively and strategically to identify the most effective methods for communicating information and promoting use of priority research and programming.
Experience with research design, implementation, and data analysis.
Experience with report writing and project documentation.
Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

Strong inter-cultural and interpersonal skills.
Experience writing for multiple audiences, especially in translating technical knowledge into common language.
Familiarity with use of social media sites as platforms for disseminating information and increasing interest.
Experience working with young people from diverse background and appreciation for innovative work arrangements.
Self-starter, committed team player with little or no supervision and with strong connection in the African LGBT+ community.

AQYI currently seeks a Strategic Communication Consultant who will develop and implement, in partnership with the AQYI team, a strategic communication plan. The successful candidate for this role will have experience in crafting comprehensive messaging and effective branding, and how to use these tools for effective communication in a dynamic and bilingual organization like the AQYI. The candidate will also be expected to develop a communication implementation plan that considers the internal needs of the organization and its communication objectives. A candidate that is very social media savvy, have expertise and experience on facilitating active engagement, and a deep understanding of communication as an effective advocacy tool will thrive in this role. This role is also expected to help the AQYI become more established and successful as a bilingual organization, catering to the needs of both its anglophone and francophone members and constituents. This is a full-time position with a one-year contract. Importantly, the Strategic communication consultant guides the Membership and communication Associate in maximizing African Queer Youth Initiative’s network to communicate its message and work effectively, both internally and externally. 

During the one-year period, the role will primarily focus on: 

Developing AQYI’s communications strategy for the next five years and an implementation plan.
Coordinating the production of a number of key resources to support advocacy, give more visibility to AQYI work and objectives; and
Developing a strategy for coordinating AQYI’s regular external communications and content.

Job description: 

Lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan to address AQYI communication needs as a bilingual organization and to ensure active engagement internally and externally.
Review and evaluate target audience based on the objective of AQYI’s work and desired outcomes.
Lead and support the communications and membership associate in organizing and developing a messaging and branding strategy.
Provide AQYI with advice and recommendations regarding short and or long-term communication strategies.
Assess ways in which AQYI’s website, social media channels and related communication platforms can be best leveraged for meeting communication needs targeting out major audience.
Development of new communication activities aimed at expanding AQYI’s digital reach and engagement. 
Leading on the monitoring and assessment of AQYI’s external communications, including advocacy campaigns, global newsletters and website content.
Identify how to best coordinate and streamline the various communications and advocacy efforts of AQYI.
Ability to work well and fast virtually.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, English, Communications, Advertising and Journalism, or other relevant field. Preferably with a masters’ degree.
Exceptional verbal communication skills, including abilities in presentation and facilitation.
Expert knowledge of social media management.
Experience with understanding and implementing marketing strategies.
Experience with metrics and reporting.
Ability to work effectively in virtual setting, independently, and as a team member.
Exceptional writing and editing skills.
Must be able to speak fluent in both French and English (reading, speaking, and writing).
Strong ability to lead and encourage collaboration and engagement.
Ability to think creatively, strategize, set priorities and work well under pressure.

The successful candidate for this role will love and function very well in a support position with a dynamic organization. The job implies duties such as updating records, preparing documents, basic financial and accounting process, and implementing policies. The selected candidate will share in the goals and objectives of the AQYI. This is a full-time position.

Job Description:

Processes and review financial/business forms.
Checks, corrects, and maintains a variety of financial and other business records and documents.
Answers inquiries and provides information to AQYI team and partners on fiscal policies and procedures.
Prepares or assists in preparing various financial or administrative reports.
Prepares and processes requisitions for supplies and equipment.
May prepare various payrolls.May initiate and lead on new procedures in accounting systems.
Contributes to AQYI goals by accomplishing related duties as required and other tasks as requested by senior staff members.

Requirements: 

Minimum of University Degree or HND in Accounting.
Minimum of 1 year (one) experience in accounting for NGOs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel spreadsheets.
Ability to use basic accounting software (i.e. QuickBooks) or comparable software.
Demonstrate good judgment and sound financial "common sense."
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a service-oriented outlook.
Ability to work well and fast under pressure with little to no supervision.
